For Brigitte de Villenfagne, designing a garden is all about giving physical form to her client’s wishes, using nothing but fragile plants and her own knowledge and experience. This makes her gardens as different as the seasons and as people themselves. They include large, wooden and urban gardens, and attractively designed patios. She is the only member of her much-praised generation – to which Jelena De Belder, Mia Gevaert and Greta Strudza also belong – to work professionally on other people’s gardens. Brigitte de Villenfagne combines soft leaves, subtle borders and rare shrubs in a way that alludes with immense refinement to the passing seasons. Together with her son, Michaël de Villegas, she has produced work that is groundbreaking in a variety of respects, including the incorporation of motifs from cashmere fabrics in garden design.
