In the context of Brugge Plus, the Museum of Modern Art (PMMK) in Ostend organised the ambitious exhibition project Sould in the Seminar in Bruges. This edition is the accompanying publication to this project. The duality between body and sould in a culture determined by Christianity, has always had a strong influence on the creation and the perception of works of art. The human figure is the protagonist in many of the exhibited works, the body being ofter more implicitly present. This survey intends to find out in which way contemporary artists such as Miquel Barcelo, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Thierry De Cordier, Jan Fabre Antony Gormley, Zhang Huan, Azade Köker, Thomas Lange, Edward Lipski, David MAch, Ron Mueck, Juan Muñoz, Bernardi Roig, Arie Schippers, Johan Tahon, Bill Viola use new or traditional means and deal with concepts like physicality, sensuality and transcendence.
